Women's Resource Centre

Organisation Information:

The Women's Resource Centre supports women's organisations to be more effective and sustainable. We provide training, information, resources and one-to-one support on a range of organisational development issues. We also lobby decision makers on behalf of the women's not-for-profit sector for improved representation and funding.

Our members work in a wide range of fields delivering services to and campaigning on behalf of some of the most marginalised communities of women. The majority of women's organisations in the UK deliver direct services to women, many of whom have or are experiencing violence and abuse.

Under the current political threats to the women's sector we started our 'Why women?' campaign to demonstrate the need as well as the economic benefits of the continued funding of women-only projects. In addition withdrawal of funding would certainly dent current service provision in a number of key areas - domestic violence, rape and sexual violence, trafficking in women.

Organisation's Story of Resistance:

WRC moves into the second phase of its 'why women?' campaign with the launch of our new report entitled "why women-only? The value and benefits of by women, for women services".

The report aims to answer the question asked increasingly of many women's organisations by funders and the public: "Why are you women-only?" In compiling this report we included an online questionnaire so that women's organisations across the country and in remote parts of the UK could contribute to our research. Using an online survey meant we could extend our reach in an cost effective way.

Organisation ICT tools information:

Over the last few years WRC has invested in technological development as a way to build cost effective, accessible resources that the women's sector can use.

Our website and newsletter are full of information and resources for the sector. They are also some of our most valuable campaigning tools. We have an ICT/website manager and continually run ICT training courses for the sector in order to build their capacity around using ICT's.

WRC Supports the TBTT campaign and actively encourages women across the UK to reclaim our technical rights and virtual space!
